Travelling solo

I left Toronto on Oct 28th for a very long trip across the Atlantic and over much of Europe and Asia to finally arrive in India - a country that's home, yet foreign in many aspects. I didn't realize exactly what I'd signed myself up for when I wanted to experience global health in action. As part of my MPH degree requirements, I have to spend about 240 hours in the field experiencing public health in action at the grassroots level. I chose to go international and was lucky enough to find a fantastic mentor who was involved in matters of global health through his Healthy World Foundation. After months of discussion, we decided that this would be the optimal time for me to visit India and work on a project investigating the major health concerns impacting a small village in Patna, Bihar. I landed in Chennai determined to help find some simple, health interventions to combat morbidity from diarrhea. I was to soon realize that things don't work like clockwork here. Many days of lay ahead...
